This 3 hour course is intended to provide clinicians who are trained in CBTp additional training on how to work with Substance Use within the context of CBT. The course will provide a comprehensive understanding of the intricate relationship between substance abuse and schizophrenia, focusing on co-occurrence and effective treatment strategies. Through units covering diverse topics such as integrated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), cognitive models of substance abuse, tailored psychoeducation, and coping with cravings, you will learn to collaboratively address these complex issues. Real-life case examples highlight the practical application of techniques, emphasizing the importance of client empowerment, cognitive restructuring, and long-term impact. By the course's end, you will be equipped with a versatile toolkit to navigate the challenges posed by substance abuse and psychosis within a therapeutic context. By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 1) Integrate substance abuse treatment within Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTP) model 2) Collaborate with clients on goals, and apply decisional balance framework to assess advantages and disadvantages of substance use strategies. 3) Develop coping strategies aligned with positive coping beliefs, and apply various techniques to manage cravings effectively. 4) Navigate ethical considerations in addressing substance use Best Psychological Services is approved by the Canadian Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists.
